ECU90450 Spill within Offshore Wind Turbine

Date: October 2010

Location: Offshore UK

A hydraulic spill from a wind turbine gearbox, estimated quantity 300 - 500ltr of oil. The leak was contained within the turbine structure with no oil being released into the environment.

Edge attended to assist in clean up of the hydraulic oil which dripped down the internal cables of the turbine. Wipes were used to remove with the aid of a releasing agent to thin the oil down to assist with the clean up.

Access was somewhat limited inside the turbine and this wasn't a situation where you could forget anything, being 2hrs from dry land. Preperation was key to the success of this clean up operation.

As with this clean up operation every spill is unique and we are ready to respond whatever is required.
